When I fired up the Homeworld Remastered Collection for the first time and played through the first few missions of the first title in the series, I actually had to stop for a while and try to sort my memories about the game in order to see what I actually remember and what I had created using the tone and the ideas of the game.
I played through more of the upgraded experience Gearbox has managed to deliver and I re-discovered my love for the franchise, but as I played both titles, I could not shake the sense that something was missing.
Homeworld 1 and Homeworld 2 are part of the Remastered Collection and the new package comes with a lot of visual upgrades, including improved resolution, better textures, careful use of shadows, and more.

The vastness of space is even more impressive in the modern incarnation of the two titles and the gameplay remains as captivating as it was when they were first launched, with no current titles able to deliver anything similar in scope and complexity.

But unfortunately, Cataclysm, which was launched as a standalone expansion and offers a kind of side story, is not part of the Homeworld Remastered Collection and it seems that there are no plans to update it.
- Homeworld: Cataclysm, also known as Homeworld: Emergence, is the second game in the Homeworld series, following on from Homeworld and preceding Homeworld 2. It was released in September 2000 and was developed by Barking Dog Studios, with some assistance from Relic Entertainment. The game was published by Sierra Entertainment.
- There were two other games in the Homeworld franchise, dubbed Homeworld: Cataclysm and Homeworld 2. Cataclysm takes place fifteen years after the events of the first game. However, the game's canonicity is often disputed, since Homeworld 2 doesn't reference any of the events of Cataclysm. Homeworld 2 took place a hundred years after the events.
Gearbox seems to have tried to get the code
Apparently, the actual source code of Cataclysm, which is required in order to deliver the improved game experience, could not be located, the problem being caused by the fact that it was created by an outside company rather than Relic.
The story is focused around the Beast, an extra galactic creature which is able to assimilate ships created by other forces and can only be defeated by special weapons.
The gravitas of the first Homeworld is lacking, but the narrative of the small mining clan that improves its abilities and tries to battle this alien presence is uplifting in its own right.
The best part of Cataclysm is that it shows the kinds of side stories that could be created with the engine that Relic developed.

Gamers could envision more games exploring the Homeworld universe, focusing on pirates or traders or more exotic races.
Homeworld Cataclysm Manual
One of the best parts of the series is that it kept a lot of things vague, which Cataclysm exploited perfectly, and the game is a good case study for the potential full-fledged sequel that Gearbox has been mentioning.
